NCVET Establishes Research Division to Enhance Skill Regulations

The National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) has announced the creation of a research division aimed at strengthening evidence-based skill regulations in India. This decision was approved during the NCVET’s general body meeting held in New Delhi.

The new division will function as a think tank, focusing on labor market trends, qualification relevance, and policy innovation. It aims to support future skills planning and regulatory reforms, addressing the current fragmentation in research across various institutions.

The NCVET, led by Minister Jayant Chaudhary, seeks to institutionalize research and development in skill development and training quality. A Research Advisory Committee will be formed, comprising experts from government, industry, and academia, to guide strategic interventions.

Experts like Harshil Sharma emphasize the importance of primary data collection to align with NCVET’s regulatory mandate. The division is expected to lead national skilling surveys, directly influencing qualification design and accreditation decisions.
